INTENTION MEDITATION for SAFETY and SUCCESS for the GREAT JOURNEY to AFRICA! (transcript anticipating the trip)
About this category: Learning & Education

Join Us in the INTENTION MEDITATION for SAFETY and SUCCESS for the GREAT JOURNEY to AFRICA! (transcript anticipating the trip)

Excerpts from Brian McClure's Radio Show Introduction on 08/30/08: Welcome to A Call to Consciousness with Michael Peter Langevin.

For the past couple of weeks, I have told you about the trip that I am going to be taking to Africa, first to Sierra Leone and then on to Uganda, to work with some of the Mentors in those 2 countries that are opening up some primary schools for children who have nothing, children who have a lack of food, a lack of water and certainly a lack of education.  It's going to be a time when we're also going to be able to film and document for the rest of us in this country to see what the conditions are like over in those countries.

At the same time that I agreed to go to those countries, I was asked to go to 12 other countries in Africa which I haven't made time for yet.  I wanted to go to these countries first and to document and see what it was that we can do to help.

I got a call this week from my friend, Michael Peter Langevin.  Michael was the founder and publisher of Magical Blend Magazine in Califiornia for many years and is also the author of a number of books, "Secret of the Amazon Shamans," "Secrets of the Ancient Incas," and "Spiritual Business" which was a book about his magazine publishing "Magical Blend Magazine."  So I'm going to have Michael on the second half of this show, so that we can talk about the trip and some of the expectations that we have.  Of course, neither one of us knows what it will be like over there.  We're going to be landing, and we'll be picked up, and we'll have to see the conditions and what it's like when we stay there.  I will be happy to share that with everyone in a couple of weeks when I get back.

Brian:  Michael, welcome to the show!

Michael:  Brian, it's an honor to be with you.

US Vice Presidential Pick- A disastrous choice for sexual and reproductive health and rights
About this category: Human Rights & Equity

Senator John McCain, the US Republican choice for presidential nominee, has made an ill-advised, highly political choice of vice presidential candidates in Sarah Palin. She is an incredibly under-accomplished, far-right wing, inexperienced woman whose only significant political experience is being the governor of Alaskaa and an Alaskan city of 9,000 people, Wasilla.

One might think that this woman, who only holds an undergraduate degree from Idaho State and whose policies reflect her utter lack of education and grip on reality, foreign policy, economics, defense, environment, etc, might be unelectable. Unfortunately, as the election of George W Bush before her proves, Americans are apt to vote based purely on personality, looks and lifestyle, not on qualifications, education, policy or experience.

Beyond Palin's corrupt political career, abandonment of her own home state in pursuit of national political aims (her lobbying for a $200 million bridge to connect an empty town in Alaska to a local airport, and then voting against her own bridge after it became clear the country was in uproar, as other bridges in other states collapsed and multiple fatalities resulted), her undistinguished careeer as an almost-beauty queen, her support for oil-drilling on the Alaskan coast to support her personal and family oil company financial interests, and anti-environment policies, etc, Sarah Palin is a rabid right winger against women's human rights.

Ironically, her stance against sex education in schools, and her support of abstinence-only until marriage education, has resulted in her own daughter, Bristol, becoming an unmarried pregnant teenager at 17 years old. Her boyfriend Levi vows on his since-erased MySpace page that he "doesn't want kids." Yet this week, Palin has forced her daughter into becoming engaged to her underaged boyfriend still in high school, in order to uphold her political appearance and candidacy for vice president.

Terrifyingly, McCain is the oldest potential incumbent in the United States, at 70 years old. Were McCain to pop off during the presidency, this woman would become President of the United States. Even more ironically, this woman who is the staunchest opponent to women's rights wishes to reverse the slow and painstaking progress made to gender inequality over the past 100 years. She would reverse Roe v. Wade and she opposes abortion even in the case of rape or incest.

Here's some information about how "Sarah Barracuda", a self-termed "hockey mom" and mother of five, feels about people's ability to make their own choices about their sexual and reproductive health:

Source:
[Think Progress]

Palin Is A Member Of Anti-Abortion Group Feminists For Life. Palin is a member of an “anti-abortion group called Feminists for Life.” When running for governor in 2002, she “sent an e-mail to the anti-abortion Alaska Right to Life Board saying she was as ‘pro-life as any candidate can be’ and has ‘adamantly supported our cause since I first understood, as a child, the atrocity of abortion.’”

[Anchorage Daily News, 8/6/08]

Palin Opposes Abortion Even In Cases Of Rape Or Incest. In 2006, Palin said that even if her daughter were raped, “I would choose life.” She said that she would support abortion only if the mother’s life were in danger.

[Anchorage Daily News, 11/3/06]

Palin Slashed Funding To Help Teenage Mothers. Earlier this year, Palin used a line-item veto “to slash funding for a state program benefiting teen mothers in need of a place to live.” Funding for Covenant House Alaska, which provides transitional housing for teen mothers, was cut by 20 percent — from $5 million to $3.9 million.

[Washington Post,9/3/08]

Palin Supports Abstinence-Only Policies. In 2006, the Eagle Forum Alaska asked Palin whether she would “support funding for abstinence-until-marriage education.” Palin replied, “Yes, the explicit sex-ed programs will not find my support.”

[Politico, 9/1/08]

Palin Supports Parental Consent Laws For Minors Seeking Abortions. According to the Anchorage Daily News, Palin was “disappointed lawmakers let a bill die requiring girls under 17 to get parental consent for an abortion. ‘My belief is parents have the right to know about the health and welfare of their children,’ she said.”

¿Por qué elegir un kayak?

'Porque dentro de él todo depende de ti. No hay rutas y no dejas marcas visibles. Te permite navegar en esteros poco profundos y en mar abierto es como un espíritu en total libertad', comenta. 'Me dí cuenta que los sueños se pueden cumplir, aunque algunas personas pensaban que estaba loco, me han apoyado para realizar esta tarea'.

* * *

BACK from UGANDA - Fighting AIDS...!
Related to country: Uganda

Dear colleagues,

I am finally back, from Uganda, where i stay for a month working with the Aids Support Organization - TASO of Uganda.

The Experiential Trip was intended to build a young activist's capacity in massive fight against HIV/AIDS while practically experiencing the impact of the Aids Virus in the Ugandans communities.

I must admit-----it was both an opportunity for me and a sad experience looking on how deadly the virus can become when it have totally overcome a human body/immune system.

Through out my stay, I manage to combine integrated approach to learning, both building up my experience in project work and also field services provision, making use of TASO's vast level of experience in HIV work and service provision.

My stay with TASO ----- in Uganda, was a great level of step forward to my road to joining the global strive to reduce the level of impact of HIV/Aids in Africa and beyond. As a young activist, i have always believed in finding solutions to problems, through alternative researches and multi-dimensional approaches. With this, the organization TASO was a better place of inspiration for me and therefore my stay give me something more that just a trip to learn about fight an epidemic, rather a journey of SUPLUS empowerment....YES..!

As a participant, it was an exciting experience joining over 30 skilled activists from all over Africa. I must admit also that this was a another breakthrough for me, meeting people of different backgrounds understandings and cultures, this i never forget.......!

TEACH as a continue project, sponsored by the SWEDISH government, is actually a dream liner for Africa in the fight against HIV/AIDS and i always want to encourage past, present and future participants to make good use of this opportunity, been very resourceful and committed to their projected plans.

At a times when citizens of Uganda were striving very strong to survive from the deadly hands of the most fearful disease (HIV/Aids), from the enormous stories death tour, The Aids Support Organization of Uganda emerged as one of the key among others who tried to counter the attack.

One thing i can never forget and never fill to apply in my life are the diverse strategies been applied by TASO in HIV/AIDS service provision - the care and support which sub passes awareness and publications, to an unnecessarily already inform population as see in most cases. HIV/AIDS now, with major concern require more than these and every advocate have to beyond just awareness and education, applying methods such as care and support which are actually the major needs now for communities already most affected by the disease.

One of the greatest lesson learned as a visionary is that I have met an exceptional organization, one that is a possible road model for my visions and goals for the future and growth of my organization.

As I work through the doors of TASO, from the warm welcome to the ultimate setup and structure of leadership and the assured good family spirit, those a lone have been a great lesson for anyone who really yield for success in every endeavor.

More to that, from the introductory workshop, my spirit was lifted and eyes opened to the reality and soul driven need to jump into my experiential buss.

As we move down to realities, it became vivid to me how a quality organization and organize service provision can upgrade the standard of living for PLWHA. More of the lessons learn could be summarizing as follow:

Meeting clients needs.
I discover through this experiential trip that Africa and the world beyond can defeat this deadly disease, if clients and prospective clients can be assure of greater love, care and support for their needs instead of just bringing them to public ridicule and abandoning them to stigma.

It was also observed that, given the socially driven nature of young people and the society at large been polluted with the massive involvement of technically made sound producing instruments, DRAMA performances during outreach do serve and a better cause since such incidents attract more people, who at the same receives important information such as awareness and education. With some clients publicly discussion the issue during performances helps to reduce stigma and denial as well.

I HOWEVER believe that if we as volunteers and advocates for the cause are very well committed to our promises and be more passionate to serve, service provision, care and support, can minimized the impact of HIV/AIDS in Africa.

We are not God's displeasure, neither are we course, but rather need to collaboratively reawaken to the need, concerns and to the call of the crisis that surrounds us all.

I believe, always, that together, we can all defeat whatever cause, whatsoever degree of case a condition may be.

Don't forget to visit: www.tasouganoda.org. You will sure be inspired.

Thanks and welcome
